Patagonia

I just found myself thinking about that place last night since I just saw the trailer for a movie called, the Inconvenient Truth. Its a movie about global warming and the effects that they're having on Earth. This excerpt was taken from a travel journal I kept while I was in Argentina.

"....Crack! Crack! Crack! I had no idea what the noise was, but I figured if I'm gonna eat it so is everyone else on the glacier right? Then out of nowhere a thunderous crack followed by a splash rang out and then it dawned on me that the glacier was melting away. I asked the tour guide and he said the Perito Moreno Glacier had been melting away for the last decade. It once covered an entire lake and even formed a land bridge, but no longer. Global warming has caused this glacier to melt at an alarming rate, but the Argentines can do nothing about since it is global phenomenon of global warming that is killing their national treasure."

I know this global warming, gas, environment stuff has been going through my head lately since gas is running up to $4/gallon. Did you know that the oil companies own all of the patents to alterate forms of fuel? (Thanks, Kev for that wonderful piece of knowledge.) On a side note, I'm wondering if I should get a motorcycle again...Hmmm.

I can go on about this for days, but my point isn't just to save one country's national treasure. We always read about global warming, but to witness the actual effect of warming defeating such a colossal symbol like a glacier is pretty humbling.
